Andrew Barclay locomotive “499″ was built between 1963-1965 in their factory at Kilmarnock, Scotland and was bought by Shanks & McEwan (England) ltd and delivered new to Corby Works for use on the Slag Contracts within the Works Complex. In 1982, the Shanks & McEwan company ceased operation and within a year was transferred to the Rutland Railway Museum where it has worked untill recently.
It’s an amazing fact that since new, the Group will be the 3rd owners and we are indebted to the Rutland Railway Museum for making the transaction as smooth as possible. The locomotive will see it overhauled during the upcoming months and fitted with a Vacuum Brake to help with its operating capability. This will ensure it is attractive to both future passenger and small freight work within the Uk preservation scene.
A Work programme and up to date diary will follow soon! Any questions, please email chairman@bdlpg.co.uk for more information.
